This role involves the timely assessment of student submissions across our programmes, providing constructive feedback and ensuring academic standards are upheld, as defined by our Internal Quality Assessment (IQA) and Lead IQA. The role requires effective communication and the use of our internal systems to maintain accurate and transparent student records. You may also be required to contribute to content creation and development.

  • Start date: July 2025 for 9 months initially (there may be scope to extend this depending on performance during these first few months).

Responsibilities

  • The Assessor will report to our Lead Assessor (IQA) within the Education Team.
  • Grade student submissions within 14 business working days via the Canvas Learning Management System.
  • Provide clear, constructive, and model-aligned feedback to support student development.
  • Accurately record assessment decisions in Canvas and update learner documentation in the learner management software (Notion).
  • Communicate with students regarding missing or incomplete assignments.
  • Maintain high standards of assessment in accordance with IOPN’s internal quality assurance processes and carry out internal quality assessment as directed by the Lead Assessor (IQA).
  • Contribute to content creation and any other tasks deemed relevant by the Head of Education and Lead Assessor (IQA).
  • Attend regular standardisation meetings with the Lead Assessor (IQA), and complete in-house training and external CPD.
  • Work asynchronously with the Education Team and wider members of team via Notion and Slack.

 

Essential skills required

  • Master’s degree in a life science related discipline (preferably sport and exercise science and/or nutrition).
  • Experience in assessing or delivering higher education at levels 6 and 7.
  • Familiarity with LMS platforms (e.g. Canvas)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Team player and able to effectively manage time

 

Desirable

  • Confidence in interpreting and applying assessment criteria fairly and consistently.
  • Experience of carrying out internal quality assurance and/or moderation.
  • Experience working in a fully remote, asynchronous team environment.
  • A learner-focused, constructive approach to feedback and assessment.
  • A home-working or dedicated office space conducive to online remote working.
  • Graduate of the Institute of Performance Nutrition.
  • Experience using Slack, Notion, and Canvas
